Daycares Choose NOZONE
Brenda Irvine's Simply Fun playschool BC emphasizes outdoor play at every opportunity. Balancing fun and
safety is key to the success of her after-school and summer care programs, and
Brenda puts sun protection high on her list. Working with NoZone, she has
outfitted all the kids in her care with sun-protective clothing. "When it's
time to go outside, the kids slip into their NoZone suits and we're all ready to
go in the time it would take me to properly apply sunscreen to just one of
them," she says. The kids wear their outfits for any outing, but Brenda doubly
appreciates her NoZone suits on days the gang heads to the beach or the
waterpark. "I don't have to worry about sunscreens washing off, nor do I worry
about whether I've waited long enough for the sunscreens to take effect. The
kids love it and so do I." NoZone's colorful outfits make keeping track of her
charges all that easier, too, Brenda tells us, and the parents are delighted
when their children return home happy from a day in the sun with no trace of
sunburn.
NoZone supports Ascent for Alzheimer’s
This fall, 10 dedicated British Columbians will set out
to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro as part of a fund-raising drive in support of the
Alzheimer Society of BC. Each individual has his or her personal motivations
for making this journey, but all have a shared vision - to reach the summit in
support of all those whose lives have been impacted by Alzheimer’s disease or a
related dementia. NoZone is doing its part by outfitting team members
with NoZone UV protective shirts to ensure they're safe from the high-altitude
African sun. The 2008 Ascent for Alzheimer’s is a signature event for
the Alzheimer Society, raising funds for programs and services that support the
more than 64,000 British Columbians who are living with a
diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia, and their families. At
19,340 feet, Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania is the highest mountain on the
continent of Africa. You can join NoZone in
supporting the quest of these 10 individuals by donating to the undertaking in
general, or by supporting individual climbers. For more information or to
donate, please visit their website at http://www.alzheimerbc.org/ascent.php
109 Days at Sea
On March 24, 2007 John Williams of Britain and Glenn Edwards of Canada set out to become the first pairs team ever to row across the Indian Ocean from Australia to Africa. After coming heartbreakingly close -- Glenn had to pull out after 90 days at sea due to illness (he was rescued by a passing freighter) -- but John kept going and finally on July 10 after 109 days at sea landed at Mauritius near Madagascar off the c coast of Africa – a journey of some 3650 miles (5850 km). Every day at sea, John and Glenn wore their NOZONE shirts which lived up to their reputation for sun protection and softness. “Your products were fantastic,” Glenn reports, noting that neither man suffered any sunburn despite the relentless sun. “The shirts also managed the salt well and we did not suffer with any chafing – all the more remarkable as we only rinsed them every 2-3 weeks with fresh water.” And in the tight quarters of their tiny rowboat, the two sweaty rowers enjoyed each other's company all that much more thanks to the built-in silver-based odor-minimizing antimicrobial featured in NOZONE products. Crew of Rosebud protected by NOZONE
When
the owner of Rosebud, a highly successful ocean racing yacht
and recent winner of the Newport to Bermuda open water yacht
race, the British Virgin Islands Spring Regatta, and most recently
the legendary Antigua Race Week, went shopping for sun-protection
clothing for his crew, he chose NoZone’s durable Monashee shirts
featuring Activtex, a patented moisture management fabric that
offers the highest possible UVA and UVB protection rating.
NOZONE challenges the Sahara sun.
The Marathon
de Sables (Marathon of Sand) has been called the most grueling
footrace on the planet. Each year in Morocco competitors
run a total of 150+ miles over six days, the equivalent of 5
1/2 marathons in successive days in the most brutal conditions
imaginable under the 40+ degree direct sun of the Sahara Desert.
Each competitor has to also carry all his own food, clothes
and sleeping gear (except for tents and water). When Victoria
BC runner Rob Mackay entered this race, he was outfitted with
NoZone shirts. “They were amazing,” Rob reported after
finishing this grueling adventure. “The shirts were cool and
comfortable my skin stayed completely protected even being out
in the desert sun for more than a week.”
Fairmont
Hawaii Chooses NOZONE
The
outdoor recreation staff at the Big Island’s Fairmont Orchid
resort hotel spend long days in the Hawaiian sun helping guests
enjoy a full range of outdoor activities from outrigger canoes
to double hulled Hawaiian sailing canoes as well as tennis and
golf and a host of other outside adventures you’d expect from
a luxury tropical hotel. This year, the Hotel chose NoZone’s
sun protective shirts as its new uniform for its outside employees.
“They’re simply fabulous. We all love them”, says
long-term employee Mele speaking for the entire outdoor recreation
staff.

Swim school switches to NOZONE
Swim instructors for the Sharks and Minnows swimming
schools in Florida spend hours every day under the sun as they put
their young charges through their paces. School director Andy knows how
important it is to protect his instructors with good quality sun-protective swim
shirts. But the fabrics of most products tended to disintegrate in the
chlorinated water. Then Andy discovered NOZONE. "We rarely got a full season
from other suppliers, but NOZONE shirts last for years."
Under the Mississippi Sun
In May of 2007, Jacob van der Merwe will put his kayak into the Mississippi
River at Minneapolis/St.Paul to begin a 3,000 km journey to New Orleans,
fulfilling a life-long dream of being as close to the river and its people
as possible. Along the way of his 3 1/2 month expedition he expects to face
many challenges, but sunburn won't be one of them -- Jacob is outfitted in
NOZONE UV protective shirts. Amazed by their softness and wicking, moisture
management characteristics, Jacob said he could see these shirts being the
mainstay of his paddling wardrobe. Jacob is also packing a NOZONE shirt
made from Outdoortec fabric with its tighter weave that will be useful on
wetter days, or when the mosquitoes come out. Outdoortec has proved to be
highly resistant to biting insects. Follow Jacob's journey on www.crazykayaker.com
Corporate rowing team chooses NOZONE
Smart Moms
know that water reflects UV rays, significantly increasing the
intensity of the sun. So the nine members of Victoria
BC’s St. Patrick’s School Soul Sisters -- “Show no Mercy” --
corporate rowing team each invested in extra protection and
adopted NoZone shirts as their team jerseys. The Moms
report that they also make sure their kids are equally protected
from the sun by wearing NoZone kid’s products.

Media outlets feature NOZONE
Major media outlets continue to feature NOZONE sun-protective clothing
products as the best protection from the sun's harmful rays. Last year under the headline “Sun Protection that Looks Cool,”
Canada’s leading fashion magazine Chatelaine featured NoZone products
in its Health section. Chatelaine tested our products with both an
outdoor educator and a dermatologist. The verdict?: NoZone passed with flying
(and fashionable) colors. “I burn easily, but not while wearing this shirt,”
said one tester. “Plus it’s cool and comfortable and washes well.” Our
products have been featured on TV shows (The Weather Channel and CTV's popular
consumer affairs show Olsen on Your Side, among others), photographed
in Parent magazine and the subject of numerous newspaper features. For
even more news about NOZONE, look for the May, 2007 issues of both Reader's
Digest and Fitness magazines.
NOZONE crosses the Atlantic in a… ROWBOAT!!!
The Atlantic
Rowing Race is one of the world's toughest nautical. challenges
and the ultimate test of mental and physical strength and endurance.
Rowers grind out 2,550 nautical miles of open ocean from the
Canary Islands to Antigua in the West Indies. Competitor
Neil Wightwick of the second -place
finishing Atlantic4 team noted the value of the team’s long-sleeved
NoZone shirts. In 49 days of continuous use, “the fabric
remained supple and did not stiffen when soaked with salt water
and then dried. This prevented painful rubs under the
armpits” suffered by some other rowers. Thanks to the
antimicrobial infused into NoZone fabrics, “This garment also
never got smelly,” Neil reports. “There was a noticeable
difference between these items and other T-Shirts we had on
board.” What’s more, Neil found that “Wearing this top
was not hot in the sun as I expected; the top certainly prevented
any sunburn but also allowed heat from the body to escape.”
135-mile footrace across Death Valley
After extreme athlete Chryssy Weiss was invited to be just one of 90 participants in the 2006 Badwater Ultramarathon, a brutal 135-mile non-stop footrace across California’s notorious Death Valley, she began searching the globe for the best possible gear to protect her and her crew from the relentless desert sun. In the end, Chryssy chose NoZone for her running shirts and protective clothing for her support crew. The Badwater is billed as one of the world’s toughest, and not surprising. It starts in Death Valley at the lowest point in the Western Hemisphere at 280’ below sea level, and finishes at the Mt. Whitney Portals at 8360', covering along the way three mountain ranges for a total of 13,000’ of cumulative vertical ascent. And it takes place each year in July, the hottest possible time of the year.
